The Changes I See in the World

I always think of time as being an enemy, but here are a couple of reflections on
what I like  about being a baby boomer:

Consider this: We witnessed the election of the first black President.  In the 1950's or earlier, this was not a possibility  Moreover, there is a good chance we will also witness the election of the first lady President. This amazes me.  A look back in history reflecting on times when women couldn't vote. We stayed home and didn't work.  Our charge was to look after our children.

Black Americans, at one point, couldn't drink out the same water fountains as whites.  They were banished to the back of the bus.  Growing up in Miami Beach, I remember that blacks had to leave the Beach before sundown.

I am proud of the progress we've  made.  For our children, it opens possibilities.  Dreams are becoming realities.  Things that never were in our grasp are now obtainable.  There is always room for more change, but we have made so much progress in the last 30 years.

It is interesting to reflect on what the future holds for America.  Change is inevitable, and my gut tells me we will face many more challenges and hurdles,   If we look for good in men and causes, we will work to advance the common good.

There is a lot of evil in the world, so many false prophets - roping in vulnerable people to follow dangerous cults- under the guise of goodness and righteousness.  Do these people lack common sense? Do they think so little of their state in life that they are willing to sacrifice their souls' rather then dedicating to the common good?

"Be the change you want to see in the world," said a very wise Gandhi.

Can you accept the challenge?
